Amy Hawes
Amy Hawes is an award-winning Glasgow-based TV writer, playwright and trainee primary teacher. She was the sole writer on two RTS award-nominated BBC Bitesize series produced by Playdead in 2019, culminating in 49 online films for BBC Bitesize Scotland (
The Victorians), aged 9-11) and BBC Bitesize Wales (
KS3 Science, aged 11-14).
Amy has also worked in TV production (researcher and later assistant producer) on over 25 TV shows including
Hollyoaks Dispatches,
Down on the Farm,
Saturday Mash Up and
River City; as well as development assistant for Warner Bros.' UK television drama arm. With a particular interest in creating content for young people, Amy has written/directed sketches for CBBC Presentation & CBBC travelogue
All Over the Place, assistant produced on CBeebies
Junk Rescue and
Let's Go For A Walk, and was commissioned to write on
Molly & Mack (
Suki is Shy) and
Biggleton (
Cock-a-doodle-do and
Hello Mole).
Amy is a writer and founding member of
Tandem Writing Collective, a theatre company with regular shows in Edinburgh (Traverse Theatre) and Glasgow (Tron Theatre). Amy has a degree in English Language from Edinburgh University and a masters in Television Fiction Writing from Glasgow Caledonian University - supported by a scholarship from the Warner Bros. Creative Talent programme. Amy's short film
Falling for Fitzgerald (2012) won a BAFTA New Talent Award.
